Milo Peck (Readers' Forum, July 21) almost persuaded me to become a fan of Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. when he said that the governor has been supporting the use of tax money to purchase private lands for land conservation.

Peck is upset that several years ago the government purchased Antelope Island. I can't believe he would rather see that island developed by private interests instead of the wonderful visitors center, free-roaming buffalo, scenic drive and camping spots that are now there.

I think the loss of tax revenue is more than offset by the preservation of that piece of open land.
