Leo Lee's cheerleading of Israeli invasions (Readers' Forum, July 26) reveals a level of thinking that can be charitably called "uninformed." He asserts that once Israeli forces "beat the stuffing" out of them, Hezbollah and Hamas will be ready to admit they were wrong and suddenly become good democrats. He assumes first that Israel is completely in the right and that foes of Israel will see the error of their ways once they've lost a few battles.
Sadly, too many people cling to an antiquated view of war in which technology, firepower and body counts were the first principles. That's why the United States lost in Vietnam, is again mired in Iraq and why Israel is in over its head now. It's a sure-fire recipe for "quagmire."
