Broadway musicals and two long-running LDS Church pageants are among community-theater productions opening this week.

"FIDDLER ON THE ROOF," directed by Utah County veteran Jerry Elison, and featuring Neal Barth as Tevye, will play Friday through Aug. 19 in the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, 699 S. State, Orem.

The 65-member cast also includes Becky Enciso as Tevye's wife, Golde.

Performances are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10-$14 for adults and $8-$12 for students, senior citizens and children, depending on seat location (225-2787 or www.scera.org).

"SINGIN' IN THE RAIN," the Broadway version of MGM's classic musical about Hollywood in transition from silent movies to "talkies," is being staged Wednesday-Saturday in the Riverton Community Center.

Directed by Laura Garner, the cast includes Jared Stromberg as matinee idol Don Lockwood, Kolby Hales as Cosmo, Mackenna Garner as Kathy Selden and Niki Pugh as Lina Lamont.

Curtain is 7 p.m. all four nights, with one matinee at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Riverton Community Center, 12800 S. 1700 West. All seats are $6 each, but there are also discount passes. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance from Peterson's Market in Riverton or from any cast member.

"BEST OF DISNEY," a musical revue showcasing tunes from several Disney productions by a cast of Utah County singers and actors, will be performed Friday through Aug. 19 in the Center Street Musical Theatre, 177 W. Center, Provo.

Performances are Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $5. Optional catered dinner, served at 6:30 p.m., is an additional $10 for adults or $5 for children, 11 and under. Advance reservations are required (764-0535).

TWO POPULAR MORMON PIONEER PAGEANTS, one focusing on the life of the man who financed the first printing of the Book of Mormon and the other about early settlers in the frontier wilderness, are opening this week. Both are free.

"The Castle Valley Pageant," opens Thursday and continues through Aug. 12, with performances beginning about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday this week and Tuesday-Saturday the following week.

"Martin Harris: The Man Who Knew," now in its 23rd season, is performed adjacent to the Clarkston Cemetery, where Harris is buried.

Admission is free, but tickets are required due to limited seating (435-563-0059). Performances are Friday and Saturday this week, then Aug. 8-12 and 15-18, all at dusk.
