Road closures are coming to an end for one Utah County project, but delays at another soon will begin.
Excavation work on U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon has progressed to the point that overnight closures no longer are needed, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. Motorists still should expect 30-minute travel delays between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Additional closures on the highway may be necessary as construction work continues. Information is posted on the project Web site, www.udot.utah.gov/provo-canyon, and on electronic roadway signs located near Provo Canyon on U.S. 40, I-15 and I-80.
Beginning Tuesday, UDOT will begin utility work on the project to replace the Geneva Road bridge that crosses the Provo River. Bridge construction will start in late August.
UDOT officials said motorists should anticipate slight to moderate weekday delays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. due to heavy equipment accessing the area.
One lane in each direction will be maintained and crews will build half of the bridge at a time. The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2007.
