Box Elder County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of kidnapping a woman — and cutting her hair.

Deputies arrested the 20-year-old man in Bear River on Thursday and accused him of abducting a woman from Tremonton. As the 20-year-old woman was being taken, a 12-year-old relative was assaulted, deputies said.

"He took her to a Bear River City location, held her down, mutilated her hair and assaulted her," Box Elder County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Murphy said Friday.

After having her hair cut, the woman was released and the man fled, deputies said.

About midnight Thursday, deputies spotted the man near Bear River City and arrested him. He was booked into the Box Elder County Jail in Brigham City on investigation of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Deputies were still investigating the abduction on Friday and were unclear about the pair's relationship. Police were also perplexed about why the man would kidnap the woman and then cut her hair.
