President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will celebrate his 86th birthday today.
Born July 31, 1920, in Delta, the son of George A. and Amy Finlinson Faust, President Faust was sustained as an assistant to the Twelve in 1972 and to the presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976. He was ordained an apostle in 1978 and was set apart as second counselor to President Gordon B. Hinckley in 1995.
President Faust served a mission to Brazil from 1939 to 1942 and served in the Air Force during World War II. He earned his bachelor's and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Utah and worked as an attorney until his call as a general authority.
