NEW YORK — Johnny Damon hit a pair of home runs and Mike Mussina won his fifth straight decision, leading the New York Yankees over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4-2 Sunday.
Mussina (13-3) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. He struck out eight, walked two and has not lost since June 15 against Cleveland.
Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless eighth and Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 26th save in 28 chances as the Yankees bounced back after Tampa Bay's 19-6 win Saturday.
Damon hit his 12th homer off James Shields (4-5) in the fifth inning to give New York a 3-2 lead. He connected again in the seventh. It was his 10th career multihomer game and second this season.
TWINS 6, TIGERS 4: At Minneapolis, Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run triple in Minnesota's six-run eighth inning. Jeremy Bonderman's balk let the tying run score in the eighth and Luis Castillo drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout.
Bonderman (11-5) was breezing past Twins ace Johan Santana, who couldn't find the strike zone and lasted only 5 1-3 innings in one of his shakiest outings of the season, until the eighth — when Minnesota turned a bunch of choppers and two errors into a six-run inning.
Pat Neshek (1-0) got one out for his first major league victory. Joe Nathan gave up an RBI single by Chris Shelton in the ninth, but held on for his 22nd save to keep the Twins from getting swept at home for the first time this year.
ORIOLES 8, WHITE SOX 7: At Baltimore, Javy Lopez's bases-loaded single in the ninth inning off Bobby Jenks capped a two-run comeback for the Orioles. Baltimore trailed 7-6 before rallying to avoid a three-game sweep. Jeff Conine also singled in a run in the ninth for the Orioles. Jenks (2-3) had converted 19 straight save opportunities and was an AL-best 28-for-29 this season.
Eddy Rodriguez (1-1) worked the ninth for the win.
Jermaine Dye had five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the eighth inning that gave the White Sox a 7-6 lead. Paul Konerko also homered for Chicago.
MARINERS 7, INDIANS 3: At Cleveland, Jose Lopez and Raul Ibanez each had two-run singles with two outs in the ninth to help Seattle get the win. Jacob Woods (3-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the win and J.J. Putz got out of a jam in the ninth for his 22nd save in 26 chances. Cleveland lost for the 11th time in 15 games since July 14.
ATHLETICS 6, BLUE JAYS 5: At Oakland, Calif., Milton Bradley hit a three-run shot for his first career walkoff home run to lift the Athletics to the win after Toronto rallied in the top of the ninth. Bradley sent a 2-1 pitch from closer B.J. Ryan (1-1) over the center-field wall for his sixth homer to give him four RBIs. He was mobbed at home plate after rounding the bases.
ANGELS 10, RED SOX 4: At Boston, Orlando Cabrera, Vladimir Guerrero and Juan Rivera hit third-inning homers to send Curt Schilling to his first loss at Fenway Park this year, and John Lackey pitched six solid innings to help the Angels beat the Red Sox. Lackey (10-6) allowed three earned runs, nine hits and two walks, striking out six to win for the fifth time in six starts this month. The Angels have gone 19-6 in July to improve from seven games back to a half-game behind the Oakland Athletics in the AL West.
RANGERS 15, ROYALS 2: At Arlington, Texas, Michael Young had four hits and a home run, Mark DeRosa added four hits and four RBIs, and Texas beat Kansas City to snap a season-worst six-game losing streak and stay out of last place in the AL West. Carlos Lee had two more hits and his first RBI for the Rangers in his first victory with Texas since coming over from Milwaukee in a six-player trade Friday.
National League
METS 10, BRAVES 6: At Atlanta, Carlos Beltran hit two homers, including his third grand slam in July, and the New York Mets completed their first sweep of Atlanta in 21 years. The Mets swept a four-game set in Atlanta from July 4-7, 1985. Beltran's slam off Chuck James (4-2) in the second inning was the Mets' major league record-tying sixth of the month. The Montreal Expos hit six grand slams in April 1996 and Cleveland matched the record in May 1999.
DIAMONDBACKS 7, ASTROS 6: At Houston, Conor Jackson hit a go-ahead homer off Brad Lidge in the ninth inning and Arizona rallied after Roger Clemens left the game, beating the Astros. Clemens had a season-high nine strikeouts in seven sharp innings and left with a 5-1 lead. But Jeff DaVanon hit an RBI single and Eric Byrnes added a three-run homer off Chad Qualls in the eighth to tie it.
BREWERS 4, REDS 3: At Milwaukee, Ben Sheets allowed two runs in eight-plus innings and newcomer Kevin Mench drove in four runs to lead the Brewers over Cincinnati. Sheets (2-3) carried a five-hit shutout into the ninth but Adam Dunn singled and Ken Griffey Jr. followed with his 21st homer of the season to chase the right-hander from the game. Rich Aurilia then homered off Derrick Turnbow to cut it to 4-3.
PHILLIES 11, MARLINS 5 andPHILLIES 9, MARLINS 2: At Philadelphia, Chase Utley homered and extended his hitting streak to 31 games, and Ryan Howard hit his NL-leading 35th homer to help the Phillies complete a doubleheader sweep over Florida. Utley extended the longest hitting streak in the major leagues this season with a sixth-inning RBI single that chased Marlins starter Brian Moehler (5-8).
CUBS 6, CARDINALS 3: At Chicago, Carlos Zambrano outpitched Chris Carpenter to win his ninth straight decision as the Cubs completed a four-game sweep of St. Louis. Chicago's first four-game sweep of the Cardinals at Wrigley Field since 1972 left the Cardinals 0-7 this season at the Cubs' home park. Zambrano (12-3), who has not lost since May 31, allowed five hits, five walks and two runs with five strikeouts in six innings, facing a Cardinals lineup that didn't start Albert Pujols. He was a late scratch with a hyperextended right elbow, but entered the game as pinch-hitter in the seventh.
ROCKIES 3, PADRES 1: At Denver, Matt Holliday homered and Jason Jennings pitched seven solid innings for his first win in a month, helping the Rockies inch closer to the NL West-leading Padres. Holliday hit his team-leading 19th homer in the fourth inning and the Rockies made the most of their seven hits after going 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position the night before in a 4-2 loss to the Padres. Todd Helton had three hits for Colorado.
DODGERS 4, NATIONALS 3: At Los Angeles, Cesar Izturis doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Dodgers hit three home runs against Ramon Ortiz to beat Washington and complete a three-game sweep. James Loney doubled with one out in the eighth against Jon Rauch (3-2) and scored when Izturis grounded a 2-0 pitch up the first base line and off the glove of Nick Johnson on a backhanded attempt.
PIRATES 2, GIANTS 1: At Pittsburgh, Jose Hernandez's single in the 10th inning scored Jack Wilson as the Pirates completed a sweep of San Francisco. Hernandez's third hit was a line drive down the left-field line off Steve Kline (2-3) with Wilson on second base. Hernandez had struck out in the eighth in a similar situation and the Pirates down a run.
