OREM — Police on Friday arrested a man suspected in multiple cases of selling stolen sports equipment to a used sporting goods store in Orem.

Spanish Fork Police received a report of a man stealing a set of golf clubs, valued at $2,500, from Spanish Oaks Golf Course on Friday afternoon.

Detectives noticed the similarity with other cases they were investigating and called ahead to Play It Again Sports in Orem to give employees a name and vehicle description for the suspect, then proceeded to look for the vehicle.

Employees from Play It Again Sports called detectives a short time later, saying the man was in the store, attempting to sell the clubs. Police say he told employees the set was a gift from his brother and signed a statement saying the clubs were his to sell.

Police say witnesses at the golf course also identified the man and his vehicle, and he was arrested based on that information. A woman who was seen with the man escaped from the Play It Again Sports parking lot.
