West Nile virus has been detected in four mosquito pools in Salt Lake County.

Samples taken from the pools on Sunday tested positive for the virus on Thursday, the Salt Lake Valley Health Department said. Nine other mosquito pools were being retested.

Mosquito abatement districts in the county have been testing mosquito pools since last month.

The county will be spraying for mosquitoes over the next few weeks. Health officials also reminded people to avoid outside activities from dusk through dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.

People should also use insect repellent and get rid of standing water around their homes.
