MTV is celebrating its 25th anniversary today. Well, celebrating would be a big exaggeration — the cable network isn't doing anything to commemorate its birthday, mostly because it doesn't want its young viewers to know how old it is. And because those viewers think that Aug. 1, 1981, is a date somewhere in the Middle Ages. As for those of us who can actually remember when MTV programmed music videos, well, we're in our own middle ages these days.

House (7 and 8 p.m., Ch. 13): A man stops breathing during sex; a teenage heart transplant patient suffers complications. (Repeats)

Gilmore Girls (7 and 8 p.m., Ch. 30): At long last, Rory and Lorelai mend their rift; Christopher reappears in Rory and Lorelai's lives. (Repeats)

Rock Star: Supernova (8 p.m., Ch. 2): The remaining hopefuls perform.

Last Comic Standing (8 p.m., Ch. 5): The remaining comics perform.

After just two outings — and astonishingly abysmal ratings — ABC has pulled the plug on the reality/competition show "The One: Making a Music Star." We know this because the network posted this message on its Web site: "There are no plans for additional episodes. Thanks to all who participated in and supported 'The One'!" Both of you. As of press time, ABC was still trying to decide what it would air between 8-9 p.m. — reruns of something, no doubt.

Boston Legal (9 p.m., Ch. 4): Michael J. Fox guest stars as a wealthy man with terminal cancer. (Repeat)

Law & Order: SVU (9 p.m., Ch. 5): A baby is dumped in the trash. (Repeat)

Rescue Me (11 p.m., FX): Is the firehouse crew breaking up?
