Che forte! That's cool! Aug. 19 will be Italian Day in Salt Lake City, at the behest of Mayor Rocky Anderson and the City Council.
The official declaration, which was the only agenda item for a council meeting Thursday night, puts the downtown Ferragosto food and culture festival into the annals of city history.
"The Italian Center is located across the street from Pioneer Park, which was historically an area considered 'Little Italy' by Italian immigrants between the 1890s and 1920s," said the one-page resolution. " 'Little Italy' once again is being transformed as an area with Italian influence and a place where the Italian Center can preserve and share its rich cultural heritage."
