SPOKANE, Wash. — About 1,000 members from five stakes in the Spokane area (Spokane, Spokane Valley, Spokane North, Spokane East, and Spokane West Stakes) spent four hours on Saturday, July 29, 2006, clearing small trees, branches and debris. The Riverside State Park equestrian area was targeted in an effort to prevent forest fires. This service project was held in conjunction with the Church's Spokane Centennial Celebration held Aug. 12.
"They kept coming in droves," said Pat Montgomery, centennial committee public affairs director. Approximately 3,000 volunteer hours were rendered and park rangers marveled at work that could not have been accomplished otherwise.
