Jan DenButter Honored by All Jan DenButter, age 95, passed away on August 13, 2006 at home in Layton. Born February 14, 1911 in Schooven, Holland, Netherlands to Jan and Maaike Pols DenButter. Married Johanne Stekelenburg, March 24, 1938, in Holland. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 19, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1998. Married Marie Brough Talbot on March 2, 2001. Jan began a love of art at age 8. He continued to study his craft his entire life, exhibited in numerous shows and won many awards. He taught painting in the Granite School District, at Hill AFB and had many private students. He worked in many different medias: watercolor, oil, pen and ink, and pencils. His flexibility and expertise in the various styles and media was truly remarkable. He loved the land of his birth and his adopted country, especially Utah. His extensive family will miss him greatly. Survived by his wife, Marie; adopted son, Sean Carli; daughter-in-law, Dorothy I Broderick Carli; grandchildren, Johanne (Frank) Carli; Tim R. (Julie) Carli; step-daughters: Sherry (Lynn) Dangel, Connie (David) Johnson, Kathryn (Dennis) Huff; Jan had a total of 21 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. Also preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Maria DenButter; brother, Damis DenButter. "Grandpa Jan" was dearly loved by all of them. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
