MIDWAY — Former State Amateur champion Michael McRae and Jordan Johnstun captured the two qualifier spots for this month's U.S. Amateur in a local qualifying tournament at Soldier Hollow Golf Course Monday.
McRae finished with a 36-hole total of 137, while Johnstun shot 142. That left him in a tie with Nic Van Vuuren and Tim Hennick and after a 90-minute rain delay, Johnstun won on the second playoff hole.
Michael May, Steele DeWald and Corey Matthews tied at 143, while Casey Fowles, Zac Blair and Andrew Barton tied at 144.
The U.S. Amateur will be played at Hazeltine National in Minnesota Aug. 21-27.
