All native and drought tolerant plants need irrigation for at least two years after they are planted in the landscape. They have to develop a good root system and overcome the transplant shock before they will survive.

Learn about fruits and melons with Deseret Morning News garden columnist Larry Sagers during the free Garden Talk in the Park at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Brigham Young Historic Park, at the corner of State and North Temple.

Red Butte Garden is hosting a workshop on Native Seed Collecting Saturday, from 9 a.m.-noon. The class is limited to 15 participants; registration is required. Cost is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. For more information, call 581-8454.
