The Pacific Coast League announced today that infielder Howie Kendrick has been named Rookie of the Year, an honor annually chosen by the League's managers and media representatives.

Kendrick, 23, from Jacksonville, Fla., hit .369 (107/290) with 25 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 62 RBI in 69 games with the Bees this season. Recalled by the Angels on July 14, Kendrick's promotion came just two days after participating in the Triple-A All-Star Game as the starting second baseman for the PCL. In 45 games with Los Angeles Kendrick is batting .317 (53/167) with 16 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 19 RBI.

"He's a special player," said Salt Lake manager Brian Harper. "Hitting success isn't achieved by accident, it takes hard work, and he's a very committed young man. He's showing that now with the Angels."
