A woman who went absent without leave from a rehab center after avoiding jail time on a felony DUI conviction is back in the Salt Lake County Jail.
Kimberly A. Debry, 45, was sentenced Aug. 7 for third-degree felony DUI. It was her fourth DUI conviction in the past five years and her eighth DUI conviction since 1987.
Instead of jail, however, she was given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to stay in rehab.
The decision not to send her to jail disappointed prosecutors and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, who felt not only did the law require she serve jail time, but that it was the only way she would get better.
Debry obtained a day pass from the center five days after the sentencing and never returned. An arrest warrant was issued for her two weeks ago.
She was arrested late last week by Adult Probation and Parole in Weber County. She was booked into the Weber County Jail Friday and transferred Tuesday to the Salt Lake County Jail.
