Utah Lions Clubs and Harmons grocery stores are partnering to raise money for sight preservation. They'll host a chuck wagon breakfast today at all nine Harmons stores, from Ogden to Draper, from 8-11 a.m.
Donation for the breakfast is $2 for children and $3 for adults, and will include a full breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns and a drink. Lions will also be collecting used eyeglasses for people in developing countries.
All proceeds will be donated to the Utah Lions Foundation to pay for cornea transplants, research and eye treatment. According to the Utah Lions Eye Bank, it distributes more than 400 tissue donations for cornea transplants each year, and more than 100 people are waiting for eye transplants at any time.
The Utah Lions Clubs also conduct local eye-screening projects, collect eyeglasses for the needy and raise awareness of diabetes and tissue and organ donations. They are just beginning a project with cataract surgeries, in cooperation with the Moran Eye Center.
