The state Supreme Court bans guns in its own chambers but decides against a similar ban at the University of Utah. It is said that there is a constant battle for control between the Board of Trustees and the Legislature. Perhaps this skirmish is just the latest manifestation of tension between the Board of Trustees and the Legislature. The Legislature has flexed its muscle in the recent past by raising tuition, making it more difficult for students to obtain residency and denying a bond to build a student-funded recreation facility on campus. If they wish to remind us — yet again — who's boss, let them do it. But don't let them endanger students in the process. Thanks to President Young for showing integrity in taking the case to the federal courts.
