In Marjorie Cortez's recent anti-gun editorial (Sept. 12), she states, "If the point of allowing people with concealed-carry permits to carry guns into just about every public place in Utah is enhanced public safety, there had better be sound science to back it up."

Well, sorry, Ms. Cortez, but in spite of your hunter safety certificate, you are looking at this issue backward. Instead, if you want to further infringe on a constitutional right, you had better have overwhelming, sound science to prove that concealed-carry laws cause more crime. The laughable "academic freedom without intimidation" argument just doesn't cut it.
