PAGE, Ariz. — A Colorado woman is missing and presumed dead after a boating accident Friday on Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area.
Officials with the National Park Service said the boat the woman was aboard was attempting to pass another vessel around noon when it hit a wake at a high rate of speed, causing the hull to split. There were two passengers in the boat at the time.
One person was rescued from the water by a tour boat. However, Park Service officials reported that divers were unable to locate Nancy Hoff of Fruita, Colo., and she is presumed to have drowned. Water depths in the area are about 350 feet.
Hoff is an employee of Marine Max of Grand Junction, Colo., which was holding a corporate retreat in the area. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
