Pat Reavy's article of Sept. 15 about toy guns and Utah schools reminds me of the elastic guns we played with when I was a schoolboy. They would shoot farther and straighter with a knot in the elastic "bullet," but even if it hit someone square in the eye it was not serious, though it stung quite a bit, I can testify of that.

I was not allowed a BB gun because of the danger to the eyes. I can see a similar danger regarding the "soft air" guns some kids have today. Add to this the danger of being shot by a policeman and the real-looking toys become really dangerous.
