Terry Preece is not only improving smiles but warming bodies this fall by getting patients and community members to donate coats to help needy families.

The Layton dentist said he wanted to give the opportunity for parents to help out others while cleaning out their children's closets.

"When my kids were younger, we always had old coats in their closets that they had outgrown from previous years. This is a great way to not only gain more closet space but to assist others in need," he said.

The coats will be given to a local women's shelter and to families in congregations of local churches. All sizes and types are needed.

Preece practices in Layton Hills Healthy Smile Center, isn't a stranger to promoting community service. Last spring he held a "Do A Good Deed" contest that aimed to encourage children to identify service needs for friends, teachers, and community members.

He awarded both an elementary student and a high school student for deeds they did in serving their community and peers with gift certificates and a new computer.

The coat drive will run until Oct. 12. Coats can be dropped off at Layton Hills Healthy Smile Center, 2152 N. Hill Field Road, Suite 2, Layton. For more information, call 801-776-3300.
