Kendra Herrin was breathing on her own Thursday, a day after surgery to remove a bowel obstruction. And doctors at Primary Children's Medical Center said she'd probably be spending the night in a regular room with her twin, Maliyah.

The girls, 4, daughters of Jake and Erin Herrin of North Salt Lake, were born joined at mid-torso. A month ago, doctors separated them during a 26-hour surgery. But last week Kendra developed a complication in the form of scarring where surgeons had divided the large intestine the girls had shared.

Wednesday, in a three-hour surgery Dr. Rebecka Meyers and Dr. Michael Matlak fixed the obstruction. Hospital spokeswoman Laura Winder said that everything went well during the surgery and that Kendra has been doing well since.
