Car kills pedestrian in Brigham crosswalk

BRIGHAM CITY — A man died after he was hit by a car on Main Street.

Police said Benito Reyes, 54, was hit by a car around 8:10 p.m. Monday while walking in a crosswalk at 50 S. Main.

"Mr. Reyes was thrown over 80 feet from the point of impact," Brigham City Police Lt. Mike Nelsen said in a statement Tuesday.

Reyes was flown to University Hospital, where he later died. The driver of the car, 41-year-old Jeff Rasmussen, was also taken to Brigham City Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The accident is now being reviewed by the Brigham City Attorney's Office, police said.
