Clyde Luther Coates, Jr.

1926 ~ 2007

Clyde Luther Coates, Jr passed away October 8, 2007 in LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was born March 28, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Ut. The son of Clyde Luther Coates, Sr and Fannie Ferris Coates. He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and afterwards earned a private pilot license.

Clyde married Connie Eastwood on September 24, 1948. He worked for United Airlines for 38 1/2 years. He was a gun enthusiast and loved to take his sons and grandsons practice shooting. He loved his daughters and granddaughters and thought they were the most beautiful girls in the world. In his last days he was grateful for the love and kindness his children and grandchildren gave him.

Survived by his wife Connie, daughter Karen (Fred) Krommenhoek, son Jerry (Cathy) Coates, daughter Jolene (Calvin) Jones, daughter Shelley (Dave) Parker, son Larry Coates, brother Don (Ruby) Coates, sister Valerie Lundgreen and 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leo and Norman.

The family is very appreciative of the "911 guys", ER, ICU and the hospital staff on the 8th floor by room 819 that gave him so much love and attention, also thanks to Dr. Jason Spaulding and the "harp" lady of the hospice staff.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rose Park North Stake Center, 1200 North 1200 West (Boy Scout Drive), in Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call beginning at 9 a.m. until time of services. Interment to be held at Utah Veterans Memorial Park (Camp Williams). Online guest book at
