THE 18TH ANNUAL NAVAJO RUG SHOW AND SALE, titled "A Mother's Legacy, The Male Weavers," will take place Nov. 10 and 11 at Snow Park Lodge, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $5. AN EXHIBITION OF 120 paintings, approximately 30 graphic works and 60 photographs by Gustave Courbet (1819-1857) is at the Grand Palais through Jan. 28. It will then move to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (Feb. 25-May 18) and then the Musee Fabre in Montpellier, France (June 13-Sept. 28). Courbet was a major figure of 19th century art.


THE CAPITAL OF BRITISH COLUMBIA is considered Canada's bicycling capital. And its signature path, the Galloping Goose Trail, is built on abandoned railway tracks and goes all the way to Sooke. It connects with other trails, which means you can pedal throughout southern Vancouver Island. It takes you from urban to forest. You can also walk it. Information:
