MONTICELLO — A driver who may have been drunk rolled the SUV he was driving early Saturday, killing his passenger.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 6:30 a.m. on state Route 191 about 15 miles north of Monticello. Troopers said the SUV was headed south when it drifted off the road and the driver rolled it.
Two men were in the SUV. The passenger, identified as 45-year-old Roberto Bustos, died from internal injuries at the scene. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Juan A. Hernandez, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Monticello Medical Center.
"Upon being released, we arrested him for DUI and automobile homicide," UHP trooper Ted Tingey said Saturday. "We figure alcohol is the main factor in this crash."
Hernandez was booked into the San Juan County Jail. Troopers said both men were traveling from Idaho home to Mexico. However, troopers were unsure of their immigration status.
"It sounds like they were up here for the farm help and were traveling back to Mexico," Tingey said.
