Obituary: A. Blaine Riley

A. Blaine Riley

"Irish"

MAGNA-On Oct. 10, 2007 the heavens welcomed home the proudest Irishman that ever lived. Our incredible dad, grandpa, and friend passed away peacefully at home.

Blaine was the eighth of nine sons born to Frances Alfred and Harriett Josephine Wright Riley on August 4th, 1912. He grew up in Garfield, graduated from Cyprus High School and spent his entire life in the Magna area. He started working at 10 years old and thru the years became a jack of all trades and master of many. So many people reaped the benefits of his knowledge and skill. He spent his life taking care of his family, neighbors, and friends. When you needed his help he was there. He retired as an electrician from Hercules Inc. He developed his baseball skills as a young boy and lived at the ball park. He later played semi-pro ball, and the love of the game continued throughout his 95 years. He loved bowling, the Utah Jazz, and his Wednesday card games.

Blaine married our beautiful mother, Lillian Mitchell June 20, 1936 and they shared 68 years together. They were the loving parents of six children, Deanna (deceased), Gerri (Frank) Leonelli, Kelly Blaine (deceased), Thomas (Juli) Riley, Sherryl Case, and Kaye (Chris) Odgen. They were the wonderful grandparents to 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Blaine is preceded in death by his wife, two children, daughter-in-law, Velma, great granddaughter, Candela, and all eight brothers.

He enjoyed 95 years of living, loving and givingalways with a touch O'blarney. "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand." Irish Blessing.
