Vouchers will be safety net

Jeff Harmon's cynical conclusion (Readers' Forum, Oct. 14) that the only ones to benefit from school vouchers are those with a financial interest in private schools, really misses the mark. Vouchers are not for 97 percent of our kids already being well-educated by our public system, as he points out. Vouchers are for the few who do not fit the mold of the traditional system. They are not for the rich who already go to private schools. They are for desperate parents who see the public system failing but who cannot carry the load of private schools' tuition alone. This is meant to be a safety net for a very small few.
