Utah's Sakoda garners MWC honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Utah, Air Force, San Diego State and UNLV won Mountain West player of the week honors Monday.

Utah place kicker Louie Sakoda won the special teams award with 11 total points as Utah defeated San Diego State 23-7. He was responsible for all nine of Utah's first half points with field goals of 51, 32 and 27 yards. The 51-yarder was a career best. He also averaged 35.7 yards on three punts, placing two inside the 20-yard line.

Air Force wide receiver Chad Hall won the offense award for a school-record 256 receiving yards in the Falcons' 45-21 victory over Colorado State, while linebackers Russell Allen of San Diego State and Beau Bell of UNLV shared the defensive award.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Utah State cross country runner Seth Wold was named the WAC Athlete of the Week.

Wold placed 53rd out of 273 runners, with a time of 24 minutes, 06 seconds in the eight-kilometer race at the Pre-Nationals meet held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday.
