Utah Grizzlies coach Jason Christie put three contracted players on his released list Tuesday, including left wing Brandon Tidball, who played 14 games for Utah last season.
The releases get Utah down to its 20-man roster limit, although the Grizzlies will be without New York Islanders property Mike Mole, a goaltender who was recalled to the AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. The Grizzlies were seeking a backup goalie for their opening weekend at Phoenix.
Christie also released forward Mitch Woods and defenseman Peter Kennedy, both rookies. Those two plus Tidball are now eligible to be claimed on waivers.
"It came down to roster spots," Christie said.
Utah now is affiliated with the Islanders and has 10 of New York's players on its roster, meaning some free agents like Tidball, whom Christie likes after seeing him play last season, were vulnerable.
