A 24-year-old Salt Lake City man was charged in 3rd District Court on Wednesday in relation to the Oct. 14 robbery of a jewelry store at 876 W. 800 South.
The man allegedly entered Pueblitos Joyeria and sprayed its owner with lighter fluid before threatening to light him on fire.
The owner then swung a chair at the would-be robber, who ran into a van in the parking lot. The man then demanded that his friends, who had just picked up a pizza and were waiting in the van, drive him away.
The friends have cooperated with police, and the man thought to be responsible has been arrested. He is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $50,000 bail.
If convicted of the first-degree felony aggravated robbery charges, the man could spend life in prison.
