Obituary: Gayle Wendel Gotberg

1946 ~ 2007

Gayle Wendel Gotberg, age 61, passed away surrounded by her family on October 18, 2007, at 4:30 pm in Sandy, UT after a courageous battle with cancer.Gayle was born January 11, 1946, to H. Everett Wendel and Emma Larson Wendel. Gayle's greatest joy was spending time with her grand children who she loved dearly, teaching them many of her skills and especially of her faith. Gayle was also valiant in serving an LDS mission with her husband helping others with serious challenges in their lives, visiting the State prison and Wasatch Youth Center, giving of herself even when she herself was suffering. She was loved by all who had the honor to know her.

Gayle is survived by her husband, David Gotberg, her children, David Westergard (Vickie) and Jenifer Brown (Tony) and four grandchildren, Regan, Tyler, Taylor and Xander and her husband's children, Mark (Saundra), Brenda Jeppson (Brian), Byron (Krista) and Colleen Plaizier (Glen) and 14 grandchildren. Gayle's other surviving family members are siblings: Janette Rushton, Darrell Wendel, Maureen Majors, Phyllis Hansen, Marcus Wendel, Max Wendel and Amber Scott; mother Emma L. Wendel, stepmother Kaye Wendel and many nieces and nephews.

Her father, H. Everett Wendel preceded her in death.

A viewing will be held Sunday evening, October 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Goff Mortuary at 8090 S. State Street and a funeral will be held Monday, October 22 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 at the Sandy West Stake Center at 8680 S. 220 E. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Wasatch Youth Center, 3534 S. 700 W., SLC, UT 84115.
