West Valley police investigate homicide

The investigation regarding a man found dead inside a car in Taylorsville has now shifted to West Valley City.

Louis Paul Miera, 37, was shot in the neck and later found dead in the passenger seat of an abandoned car just before 10 a.m. Sunday near 1400 West and 4300 South.

Media coverage of the incident led several people to call in tips to Taylorsville police, said Taylorsville police Sgt. Rosie Rivera. One of those tips led detectives to an undisclosed location in West Valley, where the shooting allegedly occurred.

West Valley police were not releasing the location of the incident in their city as of this morning. Capt. Tom McLachlan also would not say whether detectives believed Miera was shot inside the car or shot outside and then placed in the vehicle.

"There is evidence at that location," was all McLachlan would say of the West Valley address.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday to determine if the gunshot wound to the neck caused Miera's death, but McLachlan said his detectives were treating the case as a homicide.

Miera had a long criminal history of drug and theft charges, according to court records.
