FILLMORE — A sport utility vehicle full of students who were on their way back to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles rolled on I-15, killing one and critically injuring another, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
Samuel Wasson, 19, of Portland, Ore., was a passenger in the back of the Infinity Q30 and was thrown from the vehicle when the driver fell asleep, then overcorrected around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Trooper Cameron Roden said. Fillmore is about 150 miles south of Salt Lake City.
A 23-year-old woman also was ejected from the vehicle and flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo in critical condition.
The driver and two other passengers were wearing seatbelts and survived the crash.
Roden said there was at least one open container of alcohol in the SUV, and troopers were trying to determine if that was a factor in the crash.
The students were on their way back from a trip to Wyoming, Roden said.
