2A football preview: Juab at Millard

Juab (6-4, 2-3) at Millard (9-0, 5-0)

2A State Tournament quarterfinal

Friday, 5 p.m.

Parry's Power Guide: Millard by 12

All-time series: Millard leads 35-6.

Last meeting: 2006 semifinals, Millard won 32-29

There have been two dominant teams in 2A football this year, No. 1 North Summit and No. 2 Millard. Most people believe they're on a 2A championship game collision course. Juab will try and crash that party in this weekend's quarterfinals.

Considering that one of Juab's three region losses was a double-overtime thriller against North Summit, the Wasps are clearly not a team to be taken lightly. Despite losing four games this year, Juab has been in every game but one and shown it can stand toe-to-toe with the best 2A has to offer.

A visit to multi-dimensional Millard could be Juab's toughest test yet. The Eagles are very adept offensively both with the running game and passing game, whereas defensively they've been stellar. They opened the season with three straight wins against 3A teams and turned it up another notch once region play got underway.

These same two teams met in the 2A semifinals last year, and Millard is well rested after last week's first-round bye to try and duplicate that 2006 victory.

If Juab is to have any chance against Millard, it must be productive offensively. To beat Millard in Fillmore, Juab will likely need to score at least 24 points, so the pressure is on quarterback Jordan Jones and running back Cody Keisel to perform well.
