Memphis goes two OTs to beat Rockets

HOUSTON — Kyle Lowry scored 21 points, including a tip-in at the buzzer to end the second overtime, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Rockets 109-107 in a preseason game Tuesday night in Houston.

Lowry added 11 rebounds and 12 assists.

Luther Head hit a 3-pointer and Carl Landry had a three-point play to give the Rockets a 107-101 lead with 2:17 to play in the second overtime.

But Memphis came back to tie it on consecutive baskets by Rudy Gay, Lowry and Casey Jacobsen with 43 seconds to play. Lowry had eight points in the two overtimes.

Jacobsen finished with 17 points for the Grizzlies.

Stromile Swift sparked a second-half rally to help the Grizzlies come back from a 12-point deficit in the first half. Swift had 16 points, including 13 in the third quarter.

Trailing by one to start the fourth, Memphis got seven points from Juan Carlos Navarro to pull even at 70 with 7:53 to play.

MAVERICKS 96, BULLS 88: At Dallas, Josh Howard scored 19 points before leaving in the third quarter with a wrist injury, and the Dallas Mavericks completed their preseason schedule with a victory. Howard was on defense when he sprained his left wrist while reacting to a pump-fake by Chicago's Ben Gordon. X-rays were negative, but after the game Howard wore a split on the wrist and will have an MRI exam on Wednesday morning.

NETS 82, CELTICS 71: At East Rutherford, Bostjan Nachbar scored 15 points and Antoine Wright added 14 to pace a balanced scoring attack. The Celtics were without all three of their All-Star players, as Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen did not dress for the game.

NUGGETS 114, BUCKS 102: At Denver, Allen Iverson had 21 points and Carmelo Anthony added 18 for Denver. The Nuggets jumped on the Bucks in the first quarter, outshooting them 52.4 percent to just 26.3 percent and building a 15-point lead. Despite looking shaky at times, the Nuggets didn't trail after the 9:03 mark in the first.

SPURS 104, HEAT 87: At Miami, Manu Ginobili scored 22 points on 6-for-7 shooting, and the San Antonio Spurs sealed a forgettable exhibition season for Miami. The Heat (0-7) were winless in the preseason for the first time in the team's 20-year history.

PACERS 106, TIMBERWOLVES 95: At Minneapolis, Danny Granger broke out of a preseason-long shooting slump, scoring 20 of his 25 points in the first half. Granger entered the game shooting just 33 percent in five preseason games, but was 8-of-14 against the Wolves.

WARRIORS 126, SUPERSONICS 122 (OT): At Seattle, Brandan Wright put back a missed shot with 45 seconds left in overtime. Wright, a rookie forward out of North Carolina, did not even enter the game until the fourth quarter. He finished with seven points.
