Ruby Pearl Collins Markland

Ruby Pearl Collins Markland, 97, a resident of Pleasant Grove, Ut., died October 23, 2007 at Twin Falls, ID, after a short illness. Ruby was born October 30, 1909, in Unionbille, MO, to Shelby Miller Collins and Emma Isabella Sherman. She was raised and educated in Putnam Co., MO, and attended Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. She was a teacher in a one room school for a few years prior to her marriage to Forrest Juell Markland on September 23, 1933. Forrest preceded Ruby in death in 1989 after 54 years of marriage. They moved to Casper, Wyoming, in 1936 where they raised their family of four sons and two daughters.
In 1976 they sold their home and moved to Pleasant Grove, UT. Both Ruby and Forrest served as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple before being called to serve as missionaries in the North Carolina, Greensboro Mission in 1977-78.
Ruby served in many callings in Relief Society and Primary and was very active in doing Family History work including writing two books on the genealogy of her family.
Ruby had many talents. She loved to make quilts, sewed for herself, children, grandchildren and friends. During the last couple of years she had been making clothes for the children of Mahuru Bay, Kenya, East Africa. She loved gardening and had recently reduced her garden to her yard and roses. She was a very active patron of the Pleasant Grove Library. For every family gathering she made at least "14 Pies". Anyone who knew Ruby knew she loved to share her M&M's and a good game of Scrabble.
Grandma Markland will be missed by her children and their spouses, 28 grandchildren, 61 great-grand
children, and one great-great-granddaughter as well as many friends and ward members who have been very kind to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Forrest, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 745 N. 600 W., Pleasant Grove, Utah, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Friends and Family are welcome to attend the viewing at 11:30 a.m. the day of the funeral. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 500 N. 100 W.
