Talk of extending the Legacy Highway to form the new Mountain View Corridor leaves me wondering: Is Utah to become just a string of freeways connecting one big-box shopping complex to another? Time was when Utah was sought out as a place different from the rest. The continued favor for cookie-cutter subdivisions over wetlands and the idea that clean air is a luxury not afforded to valley dwellers are only two examples of a general nonchalance about the land.
Growth is possible without the destruction of wilderness and disconnection from the land. Will we leave Utah's children with "The Place" or smoggy traffic jams and megaplexes?
