HAFB officer killed in civilian plane crash

Hill Air Force Base's Lt. Col. Raymond Roessler was killed Friday after crashing his civilian aircraft in California.

Hill officials said Roessler, a member of the 309th Maintenance Wing, crashed his single-engine Piper near Interstate 15 in San Bernadino County. No information was available Friday afternoon about Roessler's family, where he lived or anything about his career in the Air Force.

A woman who answered the phone at Roessler's Clinton home Friday afternoon declined to comment.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family of this airman," Maj. Gen. Kathleen Close said in a statement. Close is commander of Hill's Ogden Air Logistics Center. "It is always a tragedy when we lose a member of our Air Force family and we will continue to rally around his family during their time of need."
