Democrat misinformed

It's good to know that Christian Burridge, a Democrat county chairman, is so well-versed in New Testament scripture (Readers' Forum, Oct. 5). However, he overplays his hand when he suggests that GOP resistance to a greatly expanded SCHIP program is tantamount to evil. The president has not rejected SCHIP as a program for children of the poor. Rather, he vetoed an expanded SCHIP bill that would divert finite funds to the children and even young adults of the middle class.

Of course, many Democrats, including virtually all their presidential candidates, want the federal government to assume responsibility for the health care of all Americans. Perhaps Mr. Burridge ought to ponder another scripture from the New Testament: "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." — Mark 12:17
