Efforts scaled back to find body in Powell

PAGE, Ariz. — Searchers at Lake Powell have scaled back efforts to find a man who disappeared when a rock slab capsized his boat.

Don Simmons, 64, of Calhan, Colo., disappeared Sept. 28 when a rock slab fell from an alcove onto his boat. His wife, 59-year-old Mary Simmons, was killed in the accident. National Park Service rangers presume that Don Simmons has drowned in an area where the water is 150 feet deep.

Rangers say they will continue to patrol the area for any sign of his body.
