Jean LaRue Gillies Aten 1925 ~ 2007 Jean LaRue Gillies passed away January 14, 2007 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Jean was born May 11, 1925 in Rexburg, Idaho and graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Lyle Rex Aten on August 22, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For fifty two years, Jean and her husband Rex owned and operated Aten Associates, a Chicago area electrical contracting business, where Jean managed the office. Jean served as Stake Primary President (17 years), Relief Society President, Family History Center Director, and as a Social Services Specialist (placing newborns for adoption). Jean and Rex also served an LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. Jean and Rex had three children: Joann (Joe), Sue (Kirk) and Gary (Jennene). Jean was preceded in death by two brothers; Lamar and Bernell; three sisters Mildred, Elizabeth "Bessie", and Ina; a daughter Joann; and a grandson Eric. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 20th at the Fardale Ward chapel, 30 Youngs Rd., Mahwah, NJ. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 2nd, in the Utah State Veterans Cemetery, Bluffdale, UT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
