Lawmakers plan to study this summer whether to use a red-light traffic enforcement system, also known as a "photo cop," to police intersections in Salt Lake City.
During debate Tuesday in the House Law Enforcement Committee, lawmakers voted to send HB470 to interim study. The bill would have authorized Salt Lake City to use a photo cop system.
"This is an important issue," Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank said during committee debate, "We do not have the staffing resources available to us in order to adequately cover the intersections we have."
Rep. Jennifer Seelig, D- Salt Lake City, said that she plans to "study this over the interim in a meaningful and enthusiastic way."
