Helping hand

There are many opportunities to share your time and talents with others. Listed here are opportunities provided by the 211 Info Bank at 1025 S. 700 West, Salt Lake City. For more information, go to www.informationandreferral.org.

Salt Lake County CAT — Help children learn and improve essential literacy skills. Tutor children (ages 5-12) Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. The program is located throughout the Salt Lake area in local community centers.

The Ronald McDonald House — Adopt-A-Meal at the Ronald McDonald House. Families and groups needed to provide and prepare a dinner or sack lunch for our hospital-weary families every day. Fully furnished kitchen available.

Bridges Volunteer Program — Adults tutor children who are struggling with reading, spelling, math and writing in neighborhood schools.

The Arc of Utah — The Arc of Utah would like a volunteer to make a list of media fax numbers. This list will be used for putting out press releases. It is a perfect opportunity for someone who would like to volunteer but cannot leave home.

Volunteers of America — Volunteer office assistants are needed at two locations in Salt Lake City to help with answering the phone, filing and other light clerical duties.

Utah Gardens — Youths needed to help run the PLAY program, which grows fresh food for the needy. The program is run by kids and makes for great leadership opportunities. We also need adult advisers. Please call 604-5825.
