CLEARFIELD — Mae Timbimboo Parry, a leader and member of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at her home in Clearfield. She was 87.
Mrs. Parry, who was a tribal representative to the White House Conference on Indian Tribal Affairs, was one of 10 women to be recognized in the first Utah Women's Achievement award in 1996.
At the time, her son, Bruce Parry, said she taught her children to love God and education "and she is the most generous person I have ever known."
She was also a member of the Utah Indian Cooperative Council and was Honorary Utah Mother of the Year in 1986. Mrs. Parry lobbied the state to pass the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and lobbied other agencies to recognize that the "Battle of Bear River" should be more aptly termed a "massacre." And she donated hours of time to teaching about American Indian culture at area elementary schools.
The family will meet with friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 S. State. The funeral will be at noon Saturday at the Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 S. State.
