PROVO — A man who is accused of punching his girlfriend in the face and then attempting to strangle her was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail.
Police said the man, 34, entered the woman's Provo hotel room at the Executive Inn, 250 S. University Ave., last Monday, pulled her hair, threw her on the ground, punched her in the head then choked her so she couldn't breathe, according to a police report.
The man then took the woman's car and drove away before police arrived, according to the report.
Police stated in the report that the woman had a lump on her head, a scratch on one arm and a rug burn on the other arm.
Police later received information that the man was at his mother's house. However, when they arrived, he tried to run and hide inside a trailer, according to the report.
The man was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the Utah County Jail on $5,000 cash or bond bail.
The couple had lived together for the last 3 1/2 months and had planned to get married, according to the report.
