Margaret M. Nelson Nurse & Educator Margaret died on Friday with her family by her side. Her parents, Earl Scrowther McCracken and Margaret Hill moved to Ogden, Utah at the age of 5, where she graduated from high school in 1942. In 1944 she graduated from Weber College with an Associate Degree in science and in the fall of that year she entered Salt Lake General Hospital's School of Nursing. She graduated from Salt Lake General Hospital in 1947 with a Registered Nurse degree and at the same time she completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Utah. The next few years were spent in Salt Lake City doing nursing. Upon the death of her father in 1953 she moved to California to be with her mother, working in the VA hospital in Long Beach, CA until 1954. In September 1954 she married Philip S. Nelson and returned to Salt Lake City. She transferred employment to the VA Hospital in Salt Lake until 1969 where she joined the faculty at Salt Lake Community College as an instructor of LPN nursing program until retiring in 1984. Margaret very much enjoyed her teaching and this also included her taking her students into the hospital for their clinical training. She enjoyed a very loving and harmonious marriage. Philip traveled for many years for Christenson Diamond Products and Margaret enjoyed traveling with him. In 1957 they had a son Bruce, the light of their lives. He married Kathy Crumley and they have two children: Sierra Kay and Phillip Cameron. Margaret's husband, Philip died in 1989. Also preceding her in death were her sister Cleo and her brother Joseph. Her son, Bruce, daughter-in-law Kathy and her two grandchildren, Sierra and Phillip, survive her. Services for Margaret Ann McCracken Nelson, 82 years old of Smithfield, UT will be held on Wed., April 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 So. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
