The recent story "Is park honoring artifacts deal?" (April 12, Page B1) contains a common error relative to park ownership. Although mismanaged by private boards since 1998, This Is the Place is, and has always been, a state-owned park. Most state-owned historical artifacts were taken into "protective custody" some time ago. Preserving the open space and fields needed to interpret life in the pioneer period would be a wise investment in the state park's future.
